Desktop Cairn

Some "throwaway" work I created during a sombre moment as we enter another week of war and Trumpian deadlines. I have been making small bodily forms inspired by the flints I pick up on my walks around the Wiltshire landscape and as they began to pile up and resemble some of the cairns I see dotted about - it made me think of this poem by anti Vietnam war poet Robert Bly.
Counting Small-Boned Bodies by Robert Bly
Let's count the bodies over again.
If we could only make the bodies smaller
The size of skulls
We could make a whole plain white with skulls in the moonlight!
If we could only make the bodies smaller
Maybe we could get
A whole year's kill in front of us on a desk!
If we could only make the bodies smaller
We could fit
A body into a finger-ring for a keepsake forever.
